My adoration for positive affirmations is not new. I’ve already written an article that describes What Positive Affirmations Are (and More Importantly) How to Use Them. However, in this article I’m going to go a little deeper. It’s one thing to use positive affirmations. It’s another thing to effectively use positive affirmations. Here is how to effectively use positive affirmations.

How to Effectively Use Positive Affirmations
The Three Simple Steps to Effectively Use Positive Affirmations
If you’re finding that your affirmations aren’t really “working” for you there is likely due to one of three reasons. The first reason is that you are trying to use affirmations to shift your reality but you haven’t developed a strong enough positive mindset in order for the affirmations to work. Which means that deep down you subconsciously don’t believe the affirmations you’re using to be true and they are backfiring, in a sense.
The second reason that your affirmation practice might not be effective is that you aren’t practicing your affirmations daily. Bouncing off of that, you have to be consistent with an affirmation practice for it to be effective. Here are the three simple steps of using affirmations and how to effectively:
Pick Affirmations You Know in Your Heart are True
If you want affirmations to work – you need to believe in them. If you need to believe in them – you have to pick affirmations that you know in your heart are true. I created a list of suggested affirmations for someone who might be having a difficult time creating a list of affirmations that they truly believe in.
- I believe in myself and my abilities.
- I am deserving of love, respect, and happiness.
- I am capable of handling whatever comes my way.
- I am worthy of my own care and attention.
- I am constantly growing and improving.
- I am resilient and can bounce back from challenges.
- I am in control of my thoughts and emotions.
- I am open to new opportunities and experiences.
- I am kind to myself and treat myself with compassion.
- I am grateful for the good things in my life.
- I am worthy of achieving my goals.
- I am patient with myself and trust the process.
- I am free to create the life I desire.
Repeat, Repeat, Repeat
In order for affirmations to work – you have to work for them!🗣🗣
I suggest repeating affirmations at least twice a day when you’re first starting your practice off. Re-read that: at least twice a day. You may also want to consider an affirmation app that gives notifications throughout the day (I talk about the affirmation app I use in this article!). Another common practice for an effective affirmation practice is writing them on post-it’s and pasting them in a mirror or around your home.
Consistency is Key
When I say, “consistency” I don’t mean that if you practice affirmations everyday for two to three weeks your life is going to change. I mean that you have to stick to your affirmation practice for weeks and months until it has become routine. Your subconscious mind was programmed everyday since you could form thoughts – you can’t expect to change that overnight.

How to Effectively Use Positive Affirmations
My Number One Tip for Using Affirmations
While we can’t expect change overnight – we can also set our change up for success by supporting it the best that we can. My number one tip for how to effectively use positive affirmations is to practice them immediately after you wake up. Our subconscious mind is the most receptive when we are first waking up. This means that practicing affirmations upon waking is sort of a subconscious reprogramming hack.
